Celebrate National Hamburger Day with Gourmet Burger Recipes & Beer Pairings

A hamburger is just a glorified sandwich, said no one ever. The hamburger is really iconic, and glorious! Do you know how a ‘hamburger’ got its name? More commonly known as just a burger. We’ve done a bit of light reading, and it seems that what we do know is it originated in America, classic. It started as minced meat (a patty), without the bun (so those banting bunless burgers are actually the OG!). It was a ‘Hamburg Steak’, made popular worldwide by migrating Germans, it became a mainstream dish around the start of the 19th century. Later, a ‘Hamburger, bread, and coffee’ combo become an excellent deal (yay for advertising! Even back then we were all about value!), and this led to the convenient version, a Hamburger sarmie (yes, it may be a glorified sarmie).

Where ever the Hamburger came about, all we know for sure is that they are here to stay, and an absolute delight! Time to indulge in some of our top burger recipes. Take a look below at our top burgers, or download the full gourmet burger recipe book here.

The Ultimate Classic burger paired with CBC Lager.

So, what is the ultimate classic burger? A classic beef patty, with lettuce, tomato, red onion slices, and matured cheddar cheese, with a side of super-easy rosemary fries and homemade crispy onion rings! The CBC Lager has a crisp hoppy and malt taste, making it an easy-drinking Lager, perfectly suited for the plain jane’ burger.

bobotie-burger

The Bobotie Burger paired with a Heineken

The superstar in South African heritage…bobotie. This recipe is very simple to put together, but as South Africans, we love the taste of a classic Bobotie. Heineken is an iconic beer, as iconic as Bobotie in Cape Town, making it an iconic pairing 😉. Heineken’s slightly sweet flavour at first, but leaves a crisp and clean finish with a slight bitter hop aftertaste, cutting through the sweet malay bobotie, making this beer perfect for the Bobotie burger.

mushroom-wagyu-burger

airfried-corn-burger

Air-fried Crunchy Corn Flake chicken Burger with CBC Amber Weiss

Bring that restaurant favourite to your own kitchen with this easy, yet mouth-watering burger! A buttermilk corn flake crumb makes this chicken burger extra crunchy! This mouth-watering burger can be air-dried or baked in the oven. We paired it with the CBC Amber Weiss craft beer fruity and aromatic — banana ester and a slight hint of clove is noticed in the finishing, and gives only a light bitterness finish, isn’t that just the thing for a crunchy chicken burger?!

spicy-jalapeno-burger
